thick! Next, The United Nations Socio-and Economical advisory committee meet in Chile for a 6 (!!) week seminar. The UN's top man is there too. I don't think any world leaders are there.. and also the meeting is strangely protester free.. From there off to Spain! The Spain and the U.S. have resumed diplomatic relations! Yay! Much pageantry is involved here, including a parade! Whee-haw! Then, we go to New York, as the Secretary of Defense swears in the first 700 (!) Civil Defense volunteers. They're all in New York. They don't exactly TELL what they do. Do they spy on the commie neighbors or something? Next, Truman surprises his Vice President (Quick! Who was he?) by presenting him with a gift for being the longest serving politician in the Congress. His gift? A hammer carved out of the wood used in the original White House! Sweet! He looks this close to bopping Truman with it.. Now! Aviation news! Britain introduces a new bomber named the Canberra named after Australia's capital city! (Was there an Ottawa? Just wondering). The Australian Prime Minister Christians the plane with Australian champagne (ugh) and then flies off to America!! Next¦ SEAT EJECTOR TESTS!! I say no more.. Well, I will, this thing that soldiers are riding wouldn't be out of place on a carnival Midway.. Doesn't go high enough though Next.. JET POWERED HELICOPTERS!! Weee! Oh dear, the JET ENGINES ARE ATTACHED TO THE PROPELLERS! Ha! This should be good! Oh SHIT! The jet engines are on FIRE!!! Oh GOD!!!!! That's GREAT!!! The inventor plans a two seater, but right now, the production must be 'exclusive to the armed forces' Yeah, in your dreams pal. Wow. That was a GREAT segment! On to Art! (hmm, ok, how do you justify going from Aviation to Art?) A countess makes art with leaves and grass! Well, that's not anything new. And despite having a show which draws a bit of a crowd, we still don't know who you are and you certainly don't show up in any google searches. Off to Sports!! Dick Button, the world's greatest figure skater, wins another championship! Hmmm ok. Nice tie. Next, The Yanks and the Phillies prepare for the 1950s season.. The Phillies are ready! Their pitcher, Emery Church had 8 victories (yes, 8!) last year.. can he surpass it? Then after a few more players are introduced that are long forgotten today, we get a brief recap of the 1949 world series between Philadelphia and New York Yankees. Pretty exciting! Then they go into the Yankees camp, and forget about it, Phil Rezutto! Joe Dimaggio! Yogi Berra! Casey Stengel! All of them are shown here, making this one incredible nugget of baseball history. Next, James Moore, a commander in the Civil war, is buried in Alabama. (How is this a sports story?) Interesting how the newsreel laments that the're not that many Civil War veterans left. Now they're saying that about the WWI veterans.. Uh oh.. AMERICAN HISTORY time.. If I remember, these are awfully boring. This time, it focuses on Lexington and Concord, the birthplaces of the American Revolution! OK, this was sort of interesting, as it shows a lot of homes of the people famous in the battle, whilte giving a rundown of what happened..
